X-Yacht ’ s first electric-powered sailboat

X-Yachts may not be the first mover in the electric yacht market , but they are arguably the most stylish . The 40-yearold Danish yacht maker has unveiled its first-ever electric yacht and the result is as sleek as it is sustainable .
The 49-foot-long X49E is a hybrid solution delivering a motoring range of 23 miles at 5 knots thanks to twin Oceanvolt 10kW electric motors , which run off a 28.8 kWh lithium battery bank . When in need of a longer range , the onboard diesel generator is on hand .
One of the major advantages of an electric propulsion system when sailing is regeneration , and the X49E can produce up to 3.5kW when travelling at speeds exceeding 8 knots – meaning sailing for eight hours will charge the batteries from empty to full .
