2015 was a busy year . Let ’ s look back at a sampling of the biggest topics from across North America .
Google restructures and launches Alphabet For years Google has enjoyed status as one of the biggest and most well known businesses in the world , and in 2015 Google became a part of something even bigger . In August Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin announced the creation of a new head company Alphabet Inc ., launched to serve as the parent company for several enterprises including Google , YouTube , Calico and more .
“ We ’ ve long believed that over time companies tend to get comfortable doing the same thing , just making incremental changes ,” said Page in a blog post . “ But in the technology industry , where revolutionary ideas drive the next big growth areas , you need to be a bit uncomfortable to stay relevant .”
This restructuring was far from arbitrary . This shift allows each company under the Alphabet Inc . umbrella to be run as a separate subsidiary with a distinct CEO and management team . In the long run , this benefits the companies by giving them more freedom to grow and make decisions independently ; meanwhile , it benefits shareholders
